Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a combination of three antibiotics—amoxicillin, ciprofloxacin, and metronidazole—used together for their broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity. - **Amoxicillin** is a beta-lactam antibiotic (penicillin class) that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, primarily effective against Gram-positive and some Gram-negative bacteria. - **Ciprofloxacin** is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication and repair; it has strong activity against many Gram-negative bacteria but limited anaerobic coverage. - **Metronidazole** is a nitroimidazole antibiotic with potent activity against anaerobic bacteria and certain protozoa by causing DNA strand breakage after reduction in susceptible organisms. The combination may be used in clinical scenarios requiring broad-spectrum coverage of aerobic (including Gram-negatives), anaerobic, and some Gram-positive pathogens—for example, in mixed intra-abdominal infections or severe dental/oral infections where polymicrobial flora are expected[6][1]. This triple regimen is not standard but may be considered when dual therapy (e.g., ciprofloxacin plus metronidazole) does not provide sufficient coverage or when resistance patterns dictate.
