Amoxicillin is a beta-lactam antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis; fosfomycin inhibits bacterial cell wall formation by inactivating the enzyme UDP-N-acetylglucosamine enolpyruvyl transferase (MurA); and metronidazole is a nitroimidazole antibiotic effective against anaerobic bacteria and certain protozoa by disrupting DNA synthesis. This combination has demonstrated effectiveness in inducing remission and maintaining long-term control in UC patients, with fewer adverse events than some alternative regimens[1].
