Overview

Ampelopsis brevipedunculata extract is a botanical preparation derived from the plant Ampelopsis brevipedunculata (commonly known as Amur peppervine or porcelain berry), traditionally used in East Asian medicine. The extract contains various bioactive compounds including triterpenes, flavonoids, tannins, and carbohydrates[10]. It has demonstrated anti-inflammatory and anti-hepatotoxic activities in preclinical studies. Mechanistically, the ethanol extract inhibits inflammatory signaling pathways such as JAK2/STAT3 and NF-κB by reducing phosphorylation of STAT3, JAK2, ERK proteins[1][2]. It also suppresses cytokine production (e.g., TNF-α, IL-6) and immune cell infiltration in models of atopic dermatitis[1][3], reduces serum IgE/histamine levels[3], and inhibits osteoclastogenesis by downregulating genes involved in bone resorption (e.g., OSCAR, TRAP)[5]. The hepatoprotective effect is attributed to antioxidant activity against iron-induced hepatocyte injury[8]. Its primary indications under investigation are skin inflammation (atopic dermatitis), liver disorders/hepatoprotection, and bone loss/osteoporosis.
