Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ANA001 is a proprietary oral capsule formulation of the anthelmintic drug niclosamide, repurposed as an antiviral and anti-inflammatory therapy for moderate to severe COVID-19 in hospitalized patients not requiring ventilatory support. Developed initially by ANA Therapeutics and later acquired by NeuroBo Pharmaceuticals, ANA001 is designed to improve niclosamide’s oral bioavailability and is administered as 250 mg capsules at total daily doses up to 2,000 mg. Preclinical and mechanistic data suggest niclosamide can inhibit SARS‑CoV‑2 replication and modulate key inflammatory and coagulation pathways, including NF-κB and STAT3 signaling, supporting its development to reduce viral load, cytokine-driven lung injury, acute respiratory distress syndrome, and thrombotic complications in COVID-19.[2][4][5][17][18][20]
