The anti-HMW-MAA IgG1 antibody is a monoclonal antibody of the IgG1 isotype that targets High Molecular Weight Melanoma-Associated Antigen (HMW-MAA), also known as Chondroitin Sulfate Proteoglycan 4 (CSPG4). HMW-MAA is a surface antigen highly expressed on melanoma cells and various other solid tumors, where it plays a role in tumor growth and metastasis. This specific IgG1 construct was developed primarily as a benchmark or comparator molecule by researchers associated with King's College London and IGEM Therapeutics to evaluate the efficacy of an IgE-class version of the same antibody. In preclinical studies, the IgG1 antibody has demonstrated the ability to induce antibody-dependent cell-mediated phagocytosis (ADCP) and antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity (ADCC) against melanoma cells, although it is often reported as less potent than its IgE counterpart in certain in vivo models.
