Overview

Anti-PEDF refers to a class of antibodies designed to bind and neutralize Pigment Epithelium-Derived Factor (PEDF), also known as Serpin F1. PEDF is a multifunctional secreted glycoprotein with potent anti-angiogenic, neurotrophic, and anti-inflammatory properties. In research settings, anti-PEDF antibodies are utilized to block the endogenous activity of PEDF to investigate its role in various physiological and pathological processes, including ocular diseases (such as dry eye and diabetic retinopathy), wound healing, tumor progression, and neuroprotection. While primarily used as a research tool, anti-PEDF has been explored for its potential as a diagnostic marker in melanocytic tumors and as an experimental agent to accelerate wound healing in diabetic models by neutralizing the inhibitory effects of elevated PEDF on angiogenesis.
