Overview

Anti-TIM-1 monoclonal antibody is an experimental immunotherapeutic agent that targets the T-cell immunoglobulin and mucin domain-containing protein 1 (TIM-1), also known as HAVCR1. TIM-1 is a type I transmembrane receptor primarily expressed on Th2 cells, where it functions as a costimulatory molecule for T-cell activation and has been implicated in various immune-related conditions, including allergy, cancer, and transplantation. In the context of ischemic stroke, TIM-1 expression is transiently upregulated following injury. Research conducted at Stanford University indicates that therapeutic blockade of TIM-1 using a monoclonal antibody can significantly reduce neuroinflammation by suppressing the infiltration of CD3+ and CD8+ T cells and neutrophils, while also modulating microglial activation. This immunomodulatory effect has been shown to reduce infarct size and improve functional recovery in preclinical models, suggesting its potential as a novel strategy for stroke recovery.
