The drug was originally developed by **Aptose Biosciences** and later licensed for further development to **OHM Oncology**. Its mechanism of action involves inhibiting BRD4, a chromatin reader protein that regulates transcription of genes involved in cancer cell growth, and inhibiting JAK kinases, which are key mediators in cytokine signaling and hematologic malignancies. Development of APL-581 has been discontinued, and it did not progress beyond preclinical development[1][5][7][11].
