Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ARQ-255 is a topical suspension formulation of ivarmacitinib, a potent and selective Janus kinase 1 (JAK1) inhibitor, developed for the treatment of alopecia areata. It utilizes Arcutis Biotherapeutics’ proprietary Deep Dermal Drug Delivery (4D) technology to deliver the drug deep into the skin, specifically targeting inflammation at the base of hair follicles—the site implicated in alopecia areata pathogenesis. The drug is designed to address an unmet need as there are currently no FDA-approved topical treatments for this autoimmune condition, which causes patchy hair loss on the scalp and other areas. As of September 2024, ARQ-255 is being evaluated in a Phase 1b clinical trial to assess its safety, tolerability, pharmacodynamics, and pharmacokinetics in both healthy volunteers and patients with patchy alopecia areata[1][2][4][5][6].
