Overview

ASP2802 is an investigational autologous chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell therapy developed for the treatment of CD20-positive B-cell lymphomas. The therapy involves collecting a patient's own T cells and genetically modifying them to express a CAR targeting CD20, a protein commonly found on the surface of B-cell lymphoma cells. A unique feature of this therapy is its use of an inert form of the NKG2D receptor that can be selectively activated in vivo by administration of a bispecific "Micabody" protein (such as MA-20), which links the engineered T cells to their target cancer cells. This approach aims to provide greater control over CAR-T cell activation and potentially improve safety and efficacy. The drug was developed by Xyphos, a subsidiary of Astellas Pharma, but its clinical development was terminated in early 2025 following strategic pipeline prioritization[1][4][5][6][8].
