Overview

Atezolizumab + interferon alfa-2b is an investigational combination of two immunomodulatory drugs aimed at treating advanced or metastatic solid tumors, such as renal cell carcinoma and melanoma. Atezolizumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody targeting programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1), blocking its interaction with PD-1 and B7-1 to enhance the anti-tumor immune response. Interferon alfa-2b is a recombinant type I interferon that exerts both direct antiproliferative effects on tumor cells (via apoptosis and cell cycle arrest) and indirect immunomodulatory effects (stimulating T and NK cell activity, inhibiting angiogenesis). The combination is designed to synergistically enhance anti-tumor immunity by releasing immune inhibition and stimulating immune cell activity. Clinical studies indicate preliminary activity and manageable toxicity but no definitive efficacy advantage over current standard regimens.[1][3][4][2][6]
