This is an autologous adoptive cell therapy consisting of lymphokine-activated killer (LAK) cells, developed by Clinica Universidad de Navarra and Universidad de Navarra. The therapy involves extracting peripheral blood lymphocytes from a patient and expanding them ex vivo in the presence of interleukin-2 (IL-2) to generate a population of effector cells, primarily natural killer (NK) cells and cytotoxic T lymphocytes. These expanded cells are then re-infused into the patient, where they exert anti-tumor effects through direct cytotoxicity and by enhancing antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC). In clinical studies, such as the Phase II trial NCT01329354, this therapy has been evaluated as a maintenance treatment for follicular lymphoma in combination with rituximab, aiming to improve the efficacy of monoclonal antibody therapy and delay disease progression.
