avatrombopag + rituximab

A combination therapy consisting of avatrombopag, a thrombopoietin receptor agonist (TPO-RA), and rituximab, a CD20-targeting monoclonal antibody. This combination is primarily used for treating immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). Avatrombopag works by binding to and activating the thrombopoietin receptor, stimulating megakaryocyte proliferation and differentiation to increase platelet production. Rituximab targets CD20 on B cells, leading to B-cell depletion through various mechanisms, thereby addressing the autoimmune component of ITP. This approach targets both decreased platelet production and increased platelet destruction, the two main pathophysiological mechanisms of ITP.
