Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a combination of three pharmaceutical agents—azathioprine, isotretinoin, and methylprednisolone. - **Azathioprine** is an immunosuppressant prodrug of 6-mercaptopurine, primarily used to prevent organ transplant rejection and treat autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn's disease, and ulcerative colitis. It works by inhibiting purine synthesis required for DNA replication in immune cells, thereby suppressing the immune response[3][6]. - **Isotretinoin** is a retinoid derivative of vitamin A used mainly for severe acne that has not responded to other treatments. It reduces sebaceous gland size and sebum production, inhibits comedogenesis, decreases inflammation, and normalizes keratinization[8]. - **Methylprednisolone** is a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid with potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties. It modulates gene expression to decrease the production of inflammatory mediators and suppresses various components of the immune system[7][10]. There are no known fixed-dose or branded pharmaceutical products containing all three agents together; however, combinations involving two (e.g., azathioprine plus corticosteroids or isotretinoin plus corticosteroids) are sometimes used in clinical practice for specific indications such as severe inflammatory conditions or refractory autoimmune diseases[6][9]. The triple combination would be highly unusual due to overlapping immunosuppressive effects and increased risk of adverse events.
