Overview

A combination antibiotic therapy consisting of azithromycin (a macrolide antibiotic) and rifabutin (a rifamycin derivative). This combination is primarily used for the prevention and treatment of Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) infections in immunocompromised patients, particularly those with HIV infection. The combination has shown greater efficacy than rifabutin alone in preventing MAC infections, though it is associated with significant tolerability issues including gastrointestinal symptoms and neutropenia.
