Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BB2603 is a nano-formulation of the antifungal drug terbinafine with the polymer polyhexamethylene biguanide (PHMB) as an excipient to enhance solubility and drug delivery to skin and nails. It is delivered topically using a low-velocity spray and is being developed for the treatment of fungal infections of the nail and skin, particularly onychomycosis and tinea pedis. The formulation uses nanotechnology to greatly enhance delivery of terbinafine to target fungal infection under the nail and within the upper layers of the skin, aiming to achieve equivalent efficacy to oral terbinafine but at a dose several thousand-fold lower, thereby avoiding systemic side effects.
