Overview

A heterologous COVID-19 vaccination approach combining BNT162b2 (Pfizer-BioNTech mRNA vaccine) and CoronaVac (inactivated virus vaccine). This combination has been studied in various configurations, including two doses of CoronaVac followed by a BNT162b2 booster (C-C-B) or BNT162b2 as first dose with CoronaVac as second dose followed by a BNT162b2 booster (B-C-B). Studies show this heterologous approach enhances protection against SARS-CoV-2 variants, offering potent neutralizing activity against wild-type virus, Beta variant, Delta variant, and some protection against the Omicron variant. The BNT162b2 booster after CoronaVac primary vaccination demonstrates higher immunogenicity compared to homologous CoronaVac boosting, particularly against the Omicron variant.
