Overview
Bushen Zhuyun Fang is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed by Professor Guicheng Xia. It is primarily used for the treatment of infertility associated with luteal phase defect (LPD), ovulation dysfunction due to kidney-Qi deficiency, and related gynecological disorders. The formula consists of multiple herbs including yam (*Dioscorea*), vinegar bupleurum (*Bupleurum*), antler tablets (*Cervi Cornu Pantotrichum*), red and white peony root (*Paeoniae Radix Alba/Rubra*), cornus (*Cornus officinalis*), dodder seed (*Cuscuta chinensis*), salvia (*Salvia miltiorrhiza*), angelica (*Angelica sinensis*), amethyst (likely *Amethystum*, a mineral component in TCM context), poria mushroom (*Poria cocos*), and fried cortex moutan. Mechanistically, Bushen Zhuyun Fang has been shown to regulate the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis by modulating pituitary gonadotropin secretion and improving luteal function. It can increase luteal phase progesterone levels, improve endometrial receptivity, reduce prolactin levels in hyperprolactinemia-related infertility via upregulation of the PRLR/JAK2/STAT5 signaling pathway and kisspeptin expression[1][3][4][5]. Clinical studies report improved pregnancy rates in women with LPD or ovulatory dysfunction when treated with this formula[3][8].
