BW-50218 is an investigational small interfering RNA (siRNA) therapeutic developed by Shanghai Argo Biopharmaceutical for the potential treatment and prevention of thromboembolic disorders. It is designed to specifically target and silence the expression of Coagulation Factor XI (FXI) in the liver. By utilizing the RNA interference (RNAi) pathway, BW-50218 induces the degradation of FXI mRNA, thereby reducing the synthesis and systemic levels of the FXI protein. Factor XI is a key component of the intrinsic coagulation pathway, and its inhibition is a promising strategy for providing antithrombotic effects with a potentially lower risk of bleeding compared to traditional anticoagulants.
