The carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA)-loaded autologous dendritic cell vaccine is an investigational, personalized cancer immunotherapy. It belongs to the class of dendritic cell vaccines, where a patient's own peripheral blood monocytes are harvested and differentiated into dendritic cells in vitro. These cells are then pulsed or loaded with CEA peptides or CEA mRNA, which serves as a tumor-associated antigen. Once administered back to the patient, these mature, antigen-presenting dendritic cells stimulate the proliferation and activation of tumor-specific CD4+ and CD8+ T-lymphocytes. This targeted immune response is designed to recognize and eliminate cancer cells overexpressing CEA, a protein commonly found in various solid tumors, particularly colorectal and lung malignancies.
