carrier-Pt is a novel platinum-based nanotherapeutic designed to reprogram the tumor microenvironment (TME) and enhance the efficacy of cancer immunotherapy. Developed by researchers at the Houston Methodist Academic Institute and Texas A&M University, carrier-Pt induces cancer cell death by triggering a rapid and robust intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) storm. This process promotes immunogenic cell death (ICD), characterized by the surface exposure of calreticulin and the release of ATP. Furthermore, carrier-Pt repolarizes immunosuppressive M2 tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) toward a pro-inflammatory M1 phenotype, increasing TNF-α and CD80 expression. These actions lead to increased CD8+ T cell infiltration into the TME, providing a synergistic effect when combined with immune checkpoint inhibitors such as anti-PD-1 antibodies.
