CD20 CAR T cells are autologous T lymphocytes that have been genetically engineered to express a chimeric antigen receptor targeting the CD20 antigen, a tetra-transmembrane protein found predominantly on mature and malignant B cells. Upon infusion, these modified T cells recognize and kill CD20-expressing tumor cells via immune-mediated cytotoxicity. They are being developed primarily for treatment-resistant or relapsed B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), CD20-positive B-cell lymphomas, and chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). Early-phase clinical trials demonstrate high response rates and durable remissions in relapsed/refractory B-cell malignancies. Unlike CD19 CAR T cells (approved in several indications), CD20 CAR T cells remain investigational, with ongoing trials evaluating safety and efficacy.
