This is a combination of three antibiotics—cefoperazone, sulbactam, and tigecycline—used primarily for the treatment of severe infections caused by multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria, especially Acinetobacter baumannii. Cefoperazone is a third-generation cephalosporin that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins. Sulbactam is a β-lactamase inhibitor that extends the spectrum of cefoperazone by inhibiting β-lactamases produced by resistant bacteria. Tigecycline is a glycylcycline antibiotic that binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit and inhibits protein synthesis in susceptible organisms. The combination has demonstrated synergistic or additive effects in vitro and in clinical studies against MDR pathogens, particularly when resistance to individual agents limits their efficacy alone[1][3][8]. This regimen is considered for critically ill patients with limited therapeutic options due to extensive drug resistance.
