Overview

Chimonanthus nitens Oliv. leaf extract (COE) is a botanical extract derived from the leaves of *Chimonanthus nitens* Oliv., a plant in the Calycanthaceae family traditionally used for herbal tea in southern China. The extract is typically prepared using ethanol and contains bioactive compounds such as flavonoids (quercetin, kaempferol), coumarins, and phenolic acids. Preclinical research indicates that COE may alleviate hyperlipidemia by activating the leptin/JAK2/STAT3 signaling pathway, which leads to the upregulation of CYP7A1 and downregulation of HMGCR in the liver. Additionally, the extract exhibits anti-diabetic properties through alpha-glucosidase inhibition and anti-inflammatory effects by modulating cytokines like TNF-alpha and IL-6. While studied in various animal models, there is currently no evidence of formal pharmaceutical development or clinical trials.
