chloroquine + glucocorticoids

A combination therapy consisting of chloroquine (an antimalarial drug) and glucocorticoids (synthetic corticosteroids). This combination leverages complementary mechanisms to enhance anti-inflammatory effects in various inflammatory and autoimmune conditions. Chloroquine works by inhibiting lysosomal function, interfering with antigen presentation, and reducing pro-inflammatory cytokine production. Glucocorticoids, such as dexamethasone, are potent anti-inflammatory agents that act by regulating gene expression to suppress inflammation. Research has shown that chloroquine can potentiate the effects of glucocorticoids by promoting the transrepression of proinflammatory cytokines by the glucocorticoid receptor (GR).
