Chloroquine phosphate + clindamycin is a combination antimalarial therapy used primarily for the treatment of malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum in areas with high rates of chloroquine resistance. Chloroquine inhibits the action of heme polymerase in malarial parasites, preventing the conversion of toxic heme to hemazoin, which leads to parasite death. Clindamycin is a lincosamide antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis. When combined with chloroquine, clindamycin significantly improves treatment outcomes compared to chloroquine monotherapy, particularly in areas with high chloroquine resistance. Clinical trials have shown that this combination can achieve cure rates of up to 97% in semi-immune adults and 94% in children when using high-dose chloroquine.
