This is a combination of three antibiotics—ciprofloxacin, neomycin, and vancomycin. Each component has a distinct mechanism of action: - Ciprofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination. - Neomycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that binds to the 30S subunit of the bacterial ribosome, causing misreading of mRNA and inhibiting protein synthesis. - Vancomycin is a glycopeptide antibiotic that inhibits cell wall synthesis in Gram-positive bacteria by binding to D-Ala-D-Ala terminus of cell wall precursor units. This combination would provide broad-spectrum antibacterial coverage against both Gram-positive (including resistant strains) and Gram-negative organisms. However, there are no widely recognized or approved pharmaceutical products containing all three agents together; combinations such as ciprofloxacin plus vancomycin have been studied for severe infections but not typically with neomycin included[1][2][7]. The use of multiple antibiotics together can increase risk for adverse effects such as nephrotoxicity or ototoxicity[3][5], and may profoundly alter gut microbiota if administered orally[4].
