Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ciprofloxacin + rifaximin is a combination antibiotic therapy primarily used for treating chronic active refractory pouchitis. Ciprofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that treats a wide variety of infections, while rifaximin is a poorly absorbed rifamycin derivative. This combination has shown effectiveness in cases where other treatments have failed, with studies demonstrating significant improvement in patients with chronic active refractory pouchitis when treated with rifaximin 1g twice daily plus ciprofloxacin 500mg twice daily for two weeks.
