Ciprofloxacin + vancomycin is an antibiotic combination therapy used primarily for peritoneal dialysis-associated peritonitis. This combination provides coverage against both gram-positive organisms (through vancomycin) and gram-negative bacteria (through ciprofloxacin). While effective as a first-line protocol for PD peritonitis with a reported 77.2% overall treatment success rate, studies have shown potential antagonism in early stages when treating staphylococcal infections, with no synergistic benefit over vancomycin alone for these specific infections. The combination has significant effects on intestinal microbiota that can persist for months after treatment.
