Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Clove refers to the essential oil or extract derived from the clove plant (Syzygium aromaticum). It is a natural product known for its diverse therapeutic properties, including antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic effects. Its mechanism of action involves inhibiting bacterial growth, modulating the JAK2/STAT3 signaling pathway, and upregulating intestinal stem cell markers such as Lgr5, Olfm4, SOX9, PCNA, and Occludin. For pain relief, its active constituent eugenol is believed to activate calcium and chloride channels in ganglionar cells and inhibit prostaglandins. Clove is also utilized in olfactory training due to its aromatic properties, contributing to neuroplasticity.
