Overview

CRD5 is a novel charge regulating drug (CRD) developed by Liponex for the treatment of dyslipidemia, high cholesterol, atherosclerosis, and heart disease. Originally discovered through research at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, CRD5 is designed to specifically increase high-density lipoprotein (HDL or 'good cholesterol') levels. In Phase I clinical trials, the drug demonstrated an average HDL increase of 18% over a two-week period. While Phase I/II data indicated that the drug was generally safe and well-tolerated in dyslipidemic subjects, gastrointestinal adverse events at higher dosage levels (5g) led to the cessation of that specific dosing stage. Development of the drug appears to have stalled after Phase II trials were planned for 2005.
