Overview

Cucurbitacin is a triterpenoid small molecule derived from plants in the Cucurbitaceae family, specifically developed and marketed by the Tianjin Institute of Materia Medica (TIPR). In China, it is approved as an oral medication, commonly known as Hululusu Pian, for the treatment of chronic hepatitis and as an adjuvant therapy for primary liver cancer. Its pharmacological profile includes hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, and anti-tumor activities. The anti-tumor mechanism is primarily attributed to the potent inhibition of the JAK/STAT3 signaling pathway, which induces apoptosis and cell cycle arrest in various cancer cell lines. Additionally, it has been shown to modulate the immune response and protect liver cells from toxic injury.
