diosmectite + mesalazine

Diosmectite + mesalazine is a combination treatment used for mild-to-moderate ulcerative colitis (UC). This combination has shown higher efficacy in inducing and maintaining remission compared to mesalazine alone. In clinical studies, the combination demonstrated significantly higher clinical remission rates and mucosal healing rates both at 8 weeks (induction phase) and 52 weeks (maintenance phase) compared to mesalazine monotherapy. Mesalazine is an aminosalicylate drug that works by dampening the inflammatory process through inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis, interference with leukotriene synthesis, and acting as a free radical scavenger. It primarily works topically rather than systemically in the intestine. Diosmectite, when combined with mesalazine, appears to enhance the therapeutic effect in treating ulcerative colitis.
