Drug intelligence / Profile preview
EA-1 is an oral insulin therapeutic being developed by Endo Axiom for the treatment of Type 1 diabetes. It utilizes a proprietary silver-sulfide quantum dot (QD) oral delivery platform designed to facilitate the delivery of peptide biologics through the gastrointestinal tract. The platform is engineered for liver-targeted delivery, mimicking the natural physiological pathway of endogenous insulin secretion into the portal vein. This targeted approach aims to improve glycemic control and reduce the risk of peripheral hyperinsulinemia and hypoglycemia associated with traditional subcutaneous insulin injections. As of 2024, the program has received Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) approval for Phase 1 clinical trials.
