Overview

Epoetin alfa RB refers to Epoetin alfa manufactured using Roller-Bottle Technology. Epoetin alfa is a recombinant human erythropoietin (rHuEPO), a glycoprotein hormone that acts as an erythropoiesis-stimulating agent. It is primarily used to treat anemia by stimulating the production of red blood cells in the bone marrow. Its main indications include anemia associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD), chemotherapy-induced anemia in cancer patients, and anemia in HIV-infected patients treated with zidovudine. The drug works by binding to and activating erythropoietin receptors on erythroid progenitor cells, promoting their proliferation, differentiation, and survival, thereby increasing red blood cell count and hemoglobin levels. Amgen is a key developer of epoetin alfa and sponsored clinical trials for Epoetin alfa RB.
