EQSTEM is a stem cell-based therapy developed by Xintela AB for the treatment of osteoarthritis and other degenerative joint diseases in horses. The product consists of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) derived from equine adipose tissue that are specifically selected using the integrin α10β1 marker. This integrin serves as both a selection marker to identify high-quality therapeutic cells and as a functional biological target; selected cells exhibit superior adhesion to damaged cartilage and subchondral bone, enhanced chondrogenic differentiation, and increased immunomodulatory properties compared to unselected MSCs. Administered via intra-articular injection, EQSTEM aims to reduce joint pain, lameness, and inflammation while potentially modifying the underlying disease progression. Xintela has partnered with EQGen Biomedical Inc. for the global development and commercialization of the therapy for veterinary musculoskeletal indications.
