Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Equirab is an equine rabies immunoglobulin (ERIG) developed and manufactured by Bharat Serums and Vaccines Limited. It consists of purified polyclonal antibody fragments derived from the hyperimmune serum of horses immunized against the rabies virus. Indicated for post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) of rabies, it provides immediate passive immunity by neutralizing the rabies virus at the site of exposure and systemically before the patient's own immune system can respond to vaccination. It is typically administered as a 40 IU/kg dose, with as much as possible infiltrated around the wound and the remainder given intramuscularly, always in conjunction with a rabies vaccine.
