ESR2 siRNA is a small interfering RNA (siRNA) designed to target and silence the expression of the ESR2 gene, which encodes Estrogen Receptor beta (ERβ). By utilizing the RNA interference (RNAi) pathway, ESR2 siRNA facilitates the sequence-specific degradation of ESR2 mRNA, leading to a significant reduction in ERβ protein levels. In preclinical research, particularly concerning pulmonary hypertension (PH), ESR2 siRNA is used to investigate the regulatory role of ERβ in pulmonary arterial endothelial cells (PAECs). Studies have indicated that ERβ upregulation under hypoxic conditions contributes to the downregulation of the RNA editing enzyme ADAR1; silencing ESR2 with siRNA has been shown to restore ADAR1 levels, suggesting a potential therapeutic pathway for addressing vascular remodeling in PH.
