Overview

**gemigliptin + empagliflozin** is an oral combination drug comprising gemigliptin, a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor, and empagliflozin, a sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor. The combination is designed for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus by leveraging complementary mechanisms: gemigliptin increases incretin levels (GLP-1 and GIP) to enhance insulin secretion and suppress glucagon release, thereby lowering blood glucose[6]; empagliflozin selectively inhibits SGLT2 in the renal proximal tubules, reducing glucose reabsorption and increasing urinary excretion of glucose[2][3][4]. This combination also exhibits anti-inflammatory effects by downregulating key pathways such as NF-κB, JNK, and JAK2/STAT1 in macrophages, which may contribute additional benefits for metabolic syndrome and chronic inflammatory diseases[1].
