Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a combination therapy of glatiramer acetate and rituximab used in the treatment of multiple sclerosis. Glatiramer acetate is an immunomodulator that contains synthetic polypeptides of four amino acids (L-glutamic acid, L-alanine, L-tyrosine, and L-lysine) and works by modifying immune processes involved in multiple sclerosis pathogenesis. Rituximab is a monoclonal antibody that targets CD20-positive B cells. The combination has been studied particularly for secondary progressive multiple sclerosis (SPMS) and as an induction therapy approach for relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS).
