gp96 placental injection is a biologic therapy consisting of the heat shock protein gp96 (also known as Grp94 or HSP90B1) extracted and purified from human placental tissue. Developed by Boao Evergrande International Hospital, it is being investigated for the treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). gp96 acts as a molecular chaperone and a potent immune adjuvant, capable of binding to various peptides and interacting with antigen-presenting cells via receptors like CD91. In the context of ALS, it is hypothesized to exert immunomodulatory and potentially neuroprotective effects by regulating the inflammatory environment associated with motor neuron degeneration. A single-center, phase 0 clinical study in China is evaluating its safety, preliminary efficacy, and immunologic effects in adults with ALS.
