Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Huang Kui Capsule is a traditional Chinese medicine product derived from the dried corolla of Abelmoschus manihot (黄蜀葵花). It is formulated as a single-herb plant extract and is primarily indicated for the treatment of chronic nephritis with symptoms of damp-heat syndrome, such as edema, lower back pain, proteinuria, hematuria, and yellow greasy tongue coating. The main pharmacological actions include clearing damp-heat, detoxification, and reducing swelling. Mechanistically, it exhibits anti-inflammatory effects, diuretic action, vasodilation, inhibition of immune responses and inflammation in renal tissue (notably by lowering interleukin-6 and tumor necrosis factor-alpha), improvement of renal fibrosis markers (protecting tubular epithelial cells), reduction in blood viscosity and platelet aggregation. Clinically it has shown efficacy in reducing proteinuria and protecting kidney function in chronic kidney diseases including diabetic nephropathy. It is widely used either alone or combined with Western medicines such as angiotensin II receptor blockers for enhanced therapeutic effect[1][2][3][4][5][7].
