Overview

This drug is a combination of two agents: ifosfamide, an alkylating small molecule chemotherapeutic agent, and interferon alfa‑2b, a recombinant protein cytokine. Ifosfamide acts by cross-linking DNA strands, leading to inhibition of DNA synthesis and function, resulting in cell death. It is primarily used as an antineoplastic agent for various cancers. Interferon alfa‑2b binds to the type I interferon receptor (interferon alpha/beta receptor), activating intracellular signaling pathways that induce antiviral, antiproliferative, and immunomodulatory effects. The combination has been investigated in clinical trials for metastatic renal cell carcinoma and other cancers; it aims to leverage both direct cytotoxicity (ifosfamide) and immune modulation/antitumor activity (interferon alfa‑2b). This regimen has shown some efficacy but also notable toxicity[1][3][4].
