Overview

Indocyanine green + rituximab is a combination agent developed as a receptor-targeted fluorescent tracer for sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB), particularly in breast cancer. This formulation directly combines indocyanine green (ICG), a near-infrared fluorescent dye, with rituximab, a chimeric human/murine monoclonal antibody targeting the CD20 antigen on B lymphocytes. When injected, the conjugate drains to regional lymph nodes where rituximab binds specifically to CD20-expressing B cells in the sentinel lymph node. The ICG component enables real-time fluorescence imaging of these nodes during surgery. This targeted approach allows for rapid and stable visualization of sentinel lymph nodes with minimal background signal from other tissues or organs[1][2]. The agent is under investigation as an improved method for SLN mapping and may enhance accuracy and convenience compared to traditional tracers.
