Drug intelligence / Profile preview
JD-004 is a small molecule drug candidate developed by J & D Pharmaceuticals, utilizing a proprietary liposomal formulation of salicylsalicylic acid (also known as salsalate). The drug is primarily being developed for the treatment of Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD) and Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome (Progeria). JD-004's mechanism of action involves the modulation of energy metabolism, inhibition of cell proliferation, and anti-inflammatory activity, specifically through the inhibition of the NF-kappaB pathway and activation of AMPK. In preclinical models of Progeria, the drug has demonstrated the ability to slow accelerated aging processes. JD-004 has received FDA Orphan Drug Designation for both ADPKD and Progeria. While systemic formulations are being advanced for genetic disorders, topical versions including creams and lotions are being explored for wound healing, burns, and traumatic brain injury.
