KGEN001 is a pre-clinical allogeneic cell therapy being developed by KiraGen Bio for the treatment of glioblastoma. The therapy is designed to target two specific markers: stromal interaction molecule 2 (STIM2) and glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor receptor alpha 1 (GFR1 or GFRA1). STIM2 is a calcium sensor that regulates endoplasmic reticulum calcium stores and signaling, which can influence tumor cell proliferation and survival. GFR1 is a receptor component for the glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) family, which plays a role in the growth and migration of glial cells. By utilizing an allogeneic (off-the-shelf) platform, KGEN001 aims to provide a more accessible and scalable cellular immunotherapy for patients with aggressive brain tumors compared to patient-specific autologous treatments.
