The let-7a microRNA mimic is a research-stage RNA-based therapeutic designed to replicate the function of the endogenous tumor suppressor microRNA let-7a. As a member of the let-7 family, it plays a critical role in regulating genes involved in cell proliferation, apoptosis, and oncogenesis. The mimic is primarily investigated for its ability to downregulate oncogenic targets such as KRAS and signal transducers like STAT3, as well as pro-apoptotic genes like Fas and FasL. Preclinical research has explored its potential in fertility preservation (protecting ovarian follicles from chemotherapy-induced damage), oncology (as a tumor suppressor in hepatocellular carcinoma and KRAS-mutant cancers), and immunotherapy. Delivery strategies include liposomal transfection, cholesterol conjugation, and gold nanoparticles. It is currently an academic research tool without a commercial sponsor or clinical-stage development.
