Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lip-Down is a generic pharmaceutical product containing simvastatin, developed and marketed by the Greek company PHARMAZAC. It belongs to the statin class of medications, which are competitive inhibitors of HMG-CoA reductase. Lip-Down is primarily indicated for the management of lipid disorders, including primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, as an adjunct to dietary modification. It is also used for the reduction of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in patients with clinically evident coronary heart disease or diabetes mellitus. By inhibiting the rate-limiting enzyme in hepatic cholesterol synthesis, it reduces the levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and triglycerides while moderately increasing high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol.
