miR-143 mimic is a synthetic version of the naturally occurring microRNA-143 (miR-143), a small non-coding RNA that regulates gene expression post-transcriptionally by binding to target mRNA sequences, typically leading to their degradation or translational repression[5]. miR-143 is highly conserved in vertebrates and is implicated in multiple biological processes, including cardiac development, cancer suppression, bone differentiation, and cataract progression[1][2][5]. The mimic is used in research to restore or increase miR-143 activity in cells where it is under-expressed, particularly in cancer models and studies of cell differentiation. Mechanistically, miR-143 mimic operates by introducing exogenous miR-143 sequences into cells, which are then processed and incorporated into the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), enabling targeted suppression of specific mRNAs, such as BRD2, KRAS, HDAC7, and CIAPIN1, among others[1][2][3]. The therapeutic potential of miR-143 mimic is under investigation for various cancers (e.g., colorectal, pancreatic, breast) due to its tumor-suppressive effects, as well as for non-cancer indications such as cataract and bone disorders[1][2][3].
