Next-generation HDAC6 inhibitor is a small molecule therapeutic being developed by Avstera Therapeutics. It is designed as a highly selective, oral inhibitor of histone deacetylase 6 (HDAC6). Unlike the company's lead candidate AVS100, which is focused on oncology, this next-generation program is being explored for broader applications including obesity and cardiovascular disease, in addition to cancer. HDAC6 is a unique member of the HDAC family that primarily resides in the cytoplasm and regulates various cellular processes such as protein degradation, microtubule dynamics, and stress response. By selectively inhibiting HDAC6, the therapeutic aims to modulate metabolic and inflammatory pathways relevant to cardiometabolic conditions and tumor progression. The program is currently in preclinical development.
